Drive Through Boycott Challenge

Vancouver has a bylaw that limits idling one's car to no more than 3 minutes.

How many tickets could bylaw enforcement issue if they just stood at drive-through windows?

How much more CO2 do we release into the air every time we use the drive-through window instead of parking the vehicle and going inside to purchase our fast food and drink?

Is it really faster to use the drive-through?

How would the environment benefit if all drive-through usage ceased?

I will never use another drive-through. I challenge all who read this to make the same commitment.

Our environment deserves it.

Great Aunty Bertha

that's a good challenge, gab. while anti idling is good for the most part i do have some probs with it when it comes to the elderly and infirm in severe heat or cold. should stickers be issued for them?

i rarely do drive throughs either...and the once or twice a year i do i won't go near the place if there's anymore then three cars. so, yup, a good challenge.....have to agree with simbra on the elders and infirm for temperature extremes.

maybe we could get fast food joints to throw you your food if people don't like the idea of going in. have those old a&w speakers, order, and let them chuck it at ya like one chick did to me in my early 20's (then she wanted to scrap, it was all because she heard me wrong and thought i called her a bitch).

Fantastic post GAB!

______
So, one time the girls and I arrived in Arcata California.

And it was late.

And so I walked across the street to the local Carls Jr. so that I could pump my kids full of hormones and antibiotics (just this once!) while they watched ol' Cosby re-runs on that TVLand thing (just this once or twice!).

I mean, there was no reason to fire up the VW (not-so)Microbus with the canoe-on-top just to go across the street to the all-night drive through, right?

Wrong.

When I walked up to the empty-drive through they wouldn't take my order.

Against security regulations to serve ambulatory amblers I was told!

Apparently something to do with discouraging terrorists and/or homeless people.

Sheesh.

I lived in Sooke for a decade. About 5 years ago they got an A&W and McD's. Magically, overnight, the garbage started to appear on the country roadsides ten minutes in any direction from the town centre. If people take the time to sit down and eat, they leave their garbage where it belongs, with the restaurant! No drive through's for me.
